Summary

Patric Richardson, aka the "Laundry Evangelist,” reveals his revolutionary methods for cleaning clothes—and making laundry loads more fun。

Doing laundry is rarely anyone’s favorite task。 But to Patric Richardson, laundry isn't just fun—it's a way of life。 After years of running Laundry Camp at the Mall of America for thousands of eager learners, he's ready to share his tips, tricks, and hacks—bringing surprise and delight to this commonly dreaded chore。

Sorting your laundry? It's not all about whites and darks。 Pondering the wash cycles? Every load, even your delicates, should be washed using express or quick-wash on warm。 Facing expensive dry cleaning bills? You'll learn how to wash everything—yes everything—at home。 And those basically clean but smelly clothes? Richardson has a secret for freshening those too (hint: it involves vodka, not soap)。

Changing your relationship with laundry can also change your life。 Richardson’s handy advice shows us how to save time and money (and the planet!) with our laundry—and he intersperses it all with a healthy dose of humor, real-life laundry stories, and lessons from his Appalachian upbringing and career in fashion。

Laundry Love will make you wonder why you ever stressed about ironing, dry cleaning, or (god forbid) red wine spills on your new couch。 No matter the issue, Richardson is here to help you make laundry miracles happen—wrinkles and stains be damned。

I heard about this book from the Modern Mrs。 Darcy, and I am enjoying it。 It is, believe it or not, an ENTERTAINING book about the right way to do your laundry。 For example: Wash everything on short wash, and don't use fabric softener (there are other solutions)。 Never dry clean anything again。 And how you can get almost any stain out of almost any fabric。I took copious notes from this small book that I borrowed from the library。 I probably won't take every suggestion, but I have aleady put quit I heard about this book from the Modern Mrs。 Darcy, and I am enjoying it。 It is, believe it or not, an ENTERTAINING book about the right way to do your laundry。 For example: Wash everything on short wash, and don't use fabric softener (there are other solutions)。 Never dry clean anything again。 And how you can get almost any stain out of almost any fabric。I took copious notes from this small book that I borrowed from the library。 I probably won't take every suggestion, but I have aleady put quite a few of them to use。 。。。more

I was expecting this to be delightful and it’s indeed delightful。 Yes it’s really just about laundry。 Yes it is still delightful。

I don't think I'll ever find joy in doing laundry, but the how-to's and tips in this book have inspired me to step up my game a little。 The author's anecdotes about clothes and textiles, some pretty epic stain removals, and growing up in Kentucky are fun too。 (My husband saw this book and thought it was a romance novel, to which I replied that a novel about a man doing the laundry would be romantic!) I never thought I wanted or needed a book about laundry, but I loved this and read it in one day。 I didn't want to put it down and found myself marking various tips with book darts for easy reference。 I finished reading it and immediately purchased new laundry supplies and rushed off to fold fitted sheets -- his method works like a charm。 I feel inspired to do laundry better and can't wait to try out the stain removal suggestions。 I never thought I wanted or needed a book about laundry, but I loved this and read it in one day。 I didn't want to put it down and found myself marking various tips with book darts for easy reference。 I finished reading it and immediately purchased new laundry supplies and rushed off to fold fitted sheets -- his method works like a charm。 I feel inspired to do laundry better and can't wait to try out the stain removal suggestions。 。。。more

I loved this book so much more than I could have ever expected! I feel like I just learned so much。 I got it from my library, but swiftly purchased a copy from Patric’s site (laundryevangelist。com) so I can always go back to the countless tips and tricks in this little book。Would not have ever heard of this if not for Anne Bogel’s summer reading list - thank you Anne!

There was some really good stuff in here, but also some fluff that wasn't always very relatable。 I've been to the dry cleaner twice in the last ten years I think, so his constant emphasis on saving time and money by no longer having to go to the dry cleaner didn't really land。 And I wish there was more detail in some of the instructions (especially on using vodka to prevent recurring smells on sports/workout clothes) but there were also some good nuggets about dealing with stains, the technology There was some really good stuff in here, but also some fluff that wasn't always very relatable。 I've been to the dry cleaner twice in the last ten years I think, so his constant emphasis on saving time and money by no longer having to go to the dry cleaner didn't really land。 And I wish there was more detail in some of the instructions (especially on using vodka to prevent recurring smells on sports/workout clothes) but there were also some good nuggets about dealing with stains, the technology of washing machines and modern textiles, environmental concerns, etc。 It kept my interest throughout as I realized there is a lot to learn about both the science and art of laundry。 Im going to try a lot of his methods in the next few months! 。。。more

When Anne Bogel started giving this book love in her podcast I wasn’t sure but wow was she spot on 😉I never thought I would care so deeply about laundry。 The book is part memoir but mostly an ode to the unsung chore - turning it into a love language for your people。

I just bought my own copy! Who knew there was so much to learn about laundry?

This entertaining little book is surely unique and it is full of intriguing information。 Some of it seems obvious (such as cleaning your dryer's lint screen) but the rest is useful。 Readers may go out and invest in wool balls and bluing。 Richardson loves his subject and has the time and resources to embrace it。 A fun, quick read。 The guide to cleaning a variety of fabrics and items is a nice addition。 Adult。 This entertaining little book is surely unique and it is full of intriguing information。 Some of it seems obvious (such as cleaning your dryer's lint screen) but the rest is useful。 Readers may go out and invest in wool balls and bluing。 Richardson loves his subject and has the time and resources to embrace it。 A fun, quick read。 The guide to cleaning a variety of fabrics and items is a nice addition。 Adult。 。。。more

This is a charming, entertaining book that provided a lot of food for thought and new things to try with laundry。 I listened to the audio, well-narrated by the author; it was charming, but I kind of wish I had the print version to refer back to。

Every evangelical revival I have encountered (you know you have watched them; stop pretending otherwise) has prompted the spirit to bring me to my feet with shouts of praise。 So it is with the Laundry Evangelist, who has set himself to proclaim the good news of clothing cleanliness, which is surely adjacent to some sort of godliness, whether one us a believer or not。Here is all the stuff you have needed to know, including the answer to the mystery "does dry clean only" really mean it? This is a wonderful work not only because of its vision of valuable information but more importantly in its celebration of performing an necessary (for most of us) task well。 So many people in the world dwell in misery, particularly the idle: the idea that there is psychic and spiritual benefit in caring well for one's apparel and appearance must be shocking。 Yet fabric care might be a humble first step out of the bondage of dishevelment that depression brings。 And it would not hurt to add laundry to the love languages, for such service to self and others, with the sense of well being it provides, is affection that can one can wrap around oneself 24 hours a day。 。。。more

interesting view about doing laundry。 I do enjoy doing laundry and ironing too。 Includes great section on special care for special items (running shoes, shower curtains, slipcovers, sports gear, rugs, pillows, oven mitts etc), section on stain removal supplies and How-Tos。 Favourite "Caring about your clothes is caring about the environment。 In other words, your decisions have much broader impacts - on you, your community, and the whole world。 You don't have to do laundry, you get to do laundry。 interesting view about doing laundry。 I do enjoy doing laundry and ironing too。 Includes great section on special care for special items (running shoes, shower curtains, slipcovers, sports gear, rugs, pillows, oven mitts etc), section on stain removal supplies and How-Tos。 Favourite "Caring about your clothes is caring about the environment。 In other words, your decisions have much broader impacts - on you, your community, and the whole world。 You don't have to do laundry, you get to do laundry。 And when you do laundry for others, it's all the sweeter。 That may sound trite, but it's the gospel truth。Need to locate some of the items Patric suggests for doing laundry: soap flakes or high-quality, plant-based liquid laundry soap (free of any product starting with p such as petroleum, phosphate), bleach alternative (100% sodium percarbonate), box of washing soda (100% sodium carbonate), small laundry brush, laundry soap bar such as Fels-Naptha for removing stains, spray bottle with 50% white vinegar, 50% water, store bought bottle of 70% rubbing alcohol, bottle of concentrated oil-soap stain solution, such as The Laundress Stain Solution, small bottle of Amodex, small spray bottle of cheap vodka, laundry mesh bags in multiple sizes, white terry washcloths, safety pins (I use diaper pins0, new tube of tennis balls and aluminum foil (a ball of it the size of a baseball to eliminate all static)。 。。。more

A fun read!! Helpful information, some of which is still blowing my mind。 Last sections of the books weren’t super applicable, but will still be ordering a hard copy for some of the stain removal and laundry product tips!

Quick, easy read with amusing anecdotes of author's family。 His thoughts on ironing echo my own: A pure satisfaction as you smooth out the wrinkle; when the world feels out of whack, it's a relief to perform a routine that gives pleasure; there's a gracefulness and a meditative feel to it。 I, too, love to iron:) I mostly had it right, but I learned a better way to fold contoured bed sheets。 I also learned some ways to lessen the washing machine's havoc on my clothes, and that they don't need to Quick, easy read with amusing anecdotes of author's family。 His thoughts on ironing echo my own: A pure satisfaction as you smooth out the wrinkle; when the world feels out of whack, it's a relief to perform a routine that gives pleasure; there's a gracefulness and a meditative feel to it。 I, too, love to iron:) I mostly had it right, but I learned a better way to fold contoured bed sheets。 I also learned some ways to lessen the washing machine's havoc on my clothes, and that they don't need to be washed as often as I've been doing (that doesn't include undergarments and kitchen towels!)。 The chapters on creating a laundry room made me giggle。 This book is aimed pretty much at upper-middle-, and high-income households。 The family recipes at the end of the book gave me pause - jello and kool aid - egads。 The sour cream pound cake with chocolate sauce sounds divine, as do the bourbon balls。 。。。more

Some of his writing was humorous but I do not agree with lots of what he said about washing。 I can't think to wash all my whites- rugs, towels etc together。 One thing I did learn was to wad up a ball of aluminum foil and use it while drying clothes。 It reduces static。 I tried it and it does work。 Some of his writing was humorous but I do not agree with lots of what he said about washing。 I can't think to wash all my whites- rugs, towels etc together。 One thing I did learn was to wad up a ball of aluminum foil and use it while drying clothes。 It reduces static。 I tried it and it does work。 。。。more
